ITALIAN SNEAK RAID
Rec. 11 a.m. LONDON, August 8. The French Naval Ministry has disclosed that Italian bombers attempted a sneak raid on the south ,of France three days before Mussolini declared war in 1940. Radar detected the approach of the raiders, who evidently intended to attack the French Fleet at Toulon, after which French anti-aircraft guns broke up and turned back the Italian formation. thus averting'a disaster com- ' parable with Pearl Harbour.
