BLOCKED BY SLIPS
RAILWAY AND ROAD HEAVY RAIN IN MARLBOROUGH P.A. BLENHEIM,. this day. Rail and road communication with Canterbury was cut last night by a slip of major proportion at Blue Slip, 42 miles south of Blenheim. The locality is the scene of extensive protection works to stabilise an area 'Of "puggy" country, which was one of the principle difficulties to be overcome in ;the construction of the South Island main trunk railway. Heavy rain for the past few days has loosened-the ground and .it is understood that both the road and railway are buried to a considerable extent. Public Works and Railways Department engineers are investigating the damage, but no details are yet available. , "i Slip 6 are also reported at the Hawkswood railway cutting and atj Greta.' '■ v
