THERMAL ACTIVITY

LITTLE CHANGE NOTICED O.C. RUAPEHU, this day. The present eruption of Ruapehu does not appear to have affected the thermal activity in the Rotorua district to any extent. Conditions at Ohinemutu, Whakarewarewa, Waiotapu and Waimungu are much as usual. However, it was reported from Te Whaiti that a continuous series of earth tremors, accompanied by a loud roaring sound, was experienced there on Sunday night and Monday morning. No damage was reported, but residents were considerably alarmed. The tremors appeared to be travelling from the direction of Ruapehu.
