LAKE AS POWER SOURCE
FARMERS URGE DEVELOPMENT O.C. KAITAIA, this day. That the Lake Omapere auxiliary electric power supply service advocated by the Bay of Islands Power Board should be pushed forward immediately was the view of the Bay of Islands sub-provincial executive of the Farmers' Union, meeting at Kaitaia. The Government's refusal to proceed with the scheme, which would safeguard Northland's power supplv in the event of a breakdown or interruption, was criticised. Provision of a railcar service between Auckland and Okaihau, to reduce the disproportionate travelling time, was also requested.
