SOLDIER SENT TO GAOL Sentence of 18 months' imprisonment with hard labour imposed by district court-martial on Private Arthur Harold Wilkes, 3rd Battalion, Auckland Regiment, and reduced by the convening officer, Brigadier A. B. Williams, D.5.0., R.N.Z.A., to nine months, was promulgated thi. , ; afternoon. Prisoner was found guilty of desertion, the period of absence being stated to have been from October 31, 1942, to July 18, 1945.
The court comprised Major A. M. Lamont (president), Captain H. Maddocks and Lieutenant H. J. Edwards. Captain N. F. Gardiner, D.5.0., prosecuted and Mr. C. H. M. Wills apoeared for Wilkes.
