A big crowd gave an enthusiastic welcome to Miss Gracie Fields when she made a stop in Hamilton for morning tea on her way to Rotorua. News that she would be passing through spread with great rapidity and a crowd was waiting outside her hotel when she arrived. The police cleared a lane for the visitor, but the crowd surged towards the car and surrounded it.
