MAY LEAVE HACK CLASS Weld Cona may run out of hack class at the Grand National meeting. He missed a rich hack prize, the Otaio Plate, at Riccarton last December, Night Robe outstaying him in a hard finish to win by a neck. Earlier he had raced consistently, winning over a mile at Washdyke, while he was runner-up in the three races leading up to his success. After a good spell Weld Cona resumed racing at Wingatui, and at his second start was third to Night Fighter and Eagle Flight over seven furlongs in the Domain Handicap. Last Saturday at Washdyke he won the Pentlow Handicap, one mile and 35 yards, in good style.

A. S. Ellis has Mr. W. if. Butt's Wild Chase —Imateagirl gelding in good order and he should be hard to beat in the Avonhead Handicap at the week-end.
