New X-Ray Departments are being opened in the two latter hospitals this year. APPLICATIONS INVITED FOR POSITION OF COUNTY CLERK. Applications are invited up to 4.30 p.m. on August 16 for the position of County Clerk to the Waimairi County Council. Commissioner, Wellington, up to August 24 from Youths between 17 and 19 years of age for appointment as Rural Field Cadets in the Public Service. A minimum of four years' secondary school education at end of present year up to University Entrance standard is required. Each applicant must furnish a report from his headmaster as to character, attainments and general suitability. A nigh standard of physique, appearance and personality is sought and each applicant should oe able to demonstrate a fondness for farming. Training period is for a term of five years, during which Cadets will be placed on various types of farms, receiving current award rates of pay. During this training they will be required to undertake a correspondence course in selected agricultural subjects and each year will submit to a progressive test. They will aJso De given short courses at Massey and Lincoln Agricultural Colleges, culminating in a full year's course at Lincoln College to qualify for the Diploma of Valuation and Farm Management. Cost of training at an Agricultural College or elsewhere than on a farm will be paid in full for the Cadet and there will be addtU a pocket money payment on a graduated scale. Cadets will pay "their own superannuation contributions based upon rates of salary paid to clerical Cadets in the Public Service. Parents or guardians will be required to give a bond indemnifying the Public Service Commissioner in the sum of £ 150 or such part thereof as the Commissioner in his absolute discretion deems proper should the Cadet leave the scheme before the completion of his training or leave the Public Service before a pericvd of four years has elapsed after the completion of his training.
