GRAND NATIONAL MEET
POSTPONEMENT UNLIKELY P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, this day* There is little likelihood now that the Grand National race meeting will have to be postponed because of snow. An inspection of the Riccarton racecourse by members of the committee of the Canterbury Jockey Club this morning showed that of 18 inches of snow which fell during the recent storm only 3 inches remain. As a result of the thaw which set in late yesterday afternoon conditions are much improved, and the indications are that the meeting will definitely open on August 4.
