BANKING HOURS

EXTENSION NOT POSSIBLE

ACUTE STAFFING POSITION

Advice from the chairman of the Associated Banks in New Zealand, Mr. E. A. Cameron, that it was quite impossible to consider any extension of banking hours at present was received at a meeting of.the council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce this afternoon in reply to a letter from the chamber.

Mr. Cameron said the staff position of the various trading banks at present was as acute as in any period since the outbreak of war. The release of staff members from the forces had been more than offset by the calling up for service or direction elsewhere of other members.
