FATAL ROAD CRASH
Death By Misadventure Of N.Z.E.F. Officer ENGLISH CORONER'S SYMPATHY Rec. 2.30 p.mu LONDON, June 29. Captain Basil Jones, of Te Kuiti, a member of the New Zealand. Expeditionary Force and ptisoner of war, died as arresul©of a road accident at Clifton! in Westmorland, on May 13. I i* The coroner, in returning-Tiis finding that death was by misadventure, said: "This is an extremely sad case and I hope my sympathy will be extended to the relatives of Captain Jones in New Zealand." The evidence showed that Captain Jones, who before the war was a journalist, was a passenger in a small car with four other passengers, which was being driven by FlightLieutenant Sidney Spilman, of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, when it was involved in a collision with a motor lorry. All of the occupants were badly injured. y Flight-Lieutenant Spilman said he thought the lorry was being driven at an excessive speed. The driver of the lorry did not see the car until the last moment.
