THREE UNBEATEN
COUNTRY WEEK HOCKEY
PLAY IN AUCKLAND A further series of matches in the Country Week ' hockey tournament this morning resulted in three teams, Franklin A, Rodney and Whangarei A maintaining their unbeaten record. The toujpey is being continued this afternor/gi and to-morrow. This morning's matches provided keen, bustling hocke--, but practically all the teams missed far too many scoring opportunities. Feature of the game in which Whangarei A defeated Franklin B .by 9 goals to nil was the brilliant play of •Bint, the Whangarei centre forward, who netted five splendid goals. Other Whangarei scorers were Mullins (2) and Palmer.
After leading 2—o at half time Rodney improved to beat Waipa by 7 goals to 2., The game was much more evenly contested than the final scores would indicate, and had Waipa made more use of its chances the winning margin would, have been considerably smaller. For Rodney, Wvatt (2). Andrews (2), Asliton, Neeley and Dunning scored goals, while Irwin netted both of Waipa's goals. Good movements by both teams marked the game between Franklin A ana Whangarei B, which the former won 4—l. Franklin had slightly the better of the first half, and led 3—o at the interval. Whangarei, however, improved considerably in the second spell, when both sides scored a goal each. Farley, Kayes and Bell goaled for Franklin, and Fyfe scored for Whangarei.
