SECRETARY'S DEATH
MR. PERCY S. BUTLER
A well-known Auckland accountant, auditor and secretary, Mi\ Percy Selwyn Butler, of Upland Road, Remuera, has died at the age of 83. From 1907 until his retirement in 1944, he was"" secretary' of the Auckland Fire Board, while he also served as secretary of the Auckland Underwriters' Association. Mr. Butler was born at Mangonui, being the youngest son of Captain William Butler, who was the first M.P. for the North. He was a director of the firm of Henderson and Macfarlane, Limited, for 26 years and by his association with that company was agent for the Pacific Phosphate Company, of London, prior to 1920. Since then he had acted for the British Phosphate Commissioners and was associated with them up to the time of his death For 38 years he was one of the auditors of the Auckland Racing Club - , Mr. Butler s wife pre-deceased him 13 years ago. He is survived by two daughters Mrs. A. Hunter and Miss Dorothy Butler. Mr. Butler's son lost his life in the last war-.
