INCREASE IN WAGES
WOMEN'S LAND SERVICE 10/ WEEKLY FROM JUNE 1 Parliamentary Reporter. WELLINGTON, this day. Increased rates of wages for members of the Women's Land Service are contained in the Agricultural Workers' Labour Legislation Suspension Order, 1941, Amendment No. 2, which was gazetted to-day. The Minister of National Service, Mr. McLagan, said this morning that under the order land girls were entitled to an increase in wages of 10/ weekly as from June 1, 1945. Accordingly, from that date the wages to be paid by farmers employing those girls were:—Dairy farms: First six months, £2 11/ per week, plus keep; thereafter, £2 18/6, plus keep. Other farms and stations: , First six months, £2 6/, plus keep; thereafter, £2 13/6; plus keep. • -In approving this increase, added the Minister, the War Cabinet had had regard to the-recent increases in the rates of wages for male workers on dairy and other farms, and also to the increase in pay granted earlier this year to women members of the armed forces. It was felt that no one would recognise more readily than the farmers themselves the excellent work which was being done by members of the Women's Land Service.
