PROTECTION OF WOMEN

AUCKLAND SOCIETY'S WORK The disturbing effects of the war were still being felt in the work of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Society for the Protection of Women and Children, declared the president, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, at the annual meeting of the branch last night. It was to be hoped, however, he said, that the improvement in the general war situation would soon be reflected in a return to normal. He had been interested, he said, in the remits passed at the conference of the society in Christchurch, and particularly in one referring to the need for clinics for the treatment of men suffering from war neurosis. At first glance he had wondered how that concerned the society, but reflection had shown that it was a matter of vital concern in their work. It was a matter of first importance to the community, and he had been greatly impressed with the prominence given it by the United States authorities. There were real and practical difficulties in the way in New Zealand, but he hoped that the matter would soon be given greater attention. He congratulated the society and its staff on the year's accomplishments. Officers were elected as follow:— President, Mr. Allum; vice-presidents, The Most Rev. Dr. A. W. Averill, the Rt. Rev. Dr. J.
