A PROMISING NOVICE
ACTIVITIES AT ELLERSLIE Track gallops at Ellerslie this morning, were practically confined to sprint distances, and owing to the heavy going times were slow. No. 2 grass track was in use.
I The best trial was credited to the novice i Cu-na-mara, which left five furlongs ' behind in 1.6 2-5. It was one of the early i gallops before the ground was cut up, but I nevertheless was a good effort. j Tiger Tan and Rara Avis were also sent over the same distance and took 1.6 4-5. I Both horses handled the going well. Colonel Dink was in front of Broiedame lat the" end of a similar task, which [occupied 1.7 3-5, the last half-mile taking I 54 S _ i Yes Tor reeled off four furlongs in 53 3-ss, time which was not bettered during , the morning. Kentish took 54 4-5s for the ' same distance, while Hormuz beat .Brookby Song in similar time. Several horses were sent away from a ! barrier start on the two-year-old track. Nawab was in front before they had gone far and was followed home by Royal Honour. Thev went five furlongs, and Nawab took 1.7 2-5, which clearly demon'strates that the son of Bulandshar and , The Begum has made excellent progress ! since being recommissioned by R. S. ; 3aKby. I Handling the going in good style, British Mint completed six furlongs in 1.23. He was running on solidly at the finish and |is in tip-top condition for the winter ' meetings. , , I Golden Pay was under restraint • throughout six furiongs, which took 1.25 : 2-5. Over the same ground Sir Dingle I was going*. comfortably to return 1.26 2-o. , Other gallops were:— Three Furlongs.—Leigh Hark, 41s, Sir I Dink (on the sand), 395. j Four Furlongs.—Killfast and Felix ! Street, 55 l-ss; Great Pleasure 55 4-os; ! Superb and Silver Pere, 59 l-ss. I Five Furlongs.—The Fake and Ly- ' sander's Last, 1.10; Good Bay, 1.8 3-o; ! Prakish beat Lorna Fox and Glyn Dwr, 1 1S Seve'n Furlongs.—Our Gold and British ■ Talent, 1.38 1-5. The Jumpers I Foxsen (Mcßae) and Good Fun (Chapi lin)' gave an excellent display over four hurdles in the centre. , i Shepherd's Mate (Baker) also cleared the same fences in a capable manner. Slavonic (Chaplin) did a similar task, also I Bushcraft and Hackenschmidt. Findon Arrives The Cornwall Handicap candidate Findon. one of the latest arrivals, did steady work over a round, and ran the last three furlongs in 435. Hf is a fine tvpe, though a bit big in condition. It is stated that he is likely to go to Australia for the spring meetings.
