A TRIBUTE
As one who had the privilege of being under her care at Aotea Convalescent Home at Heliopolis during the last war, I would like to pay a tribute to the memory of that splendid woman Matron Mary Early, R.R.C., who was in charge, and who has now passed away. Matron Early was a woman of strong character and a strict disciplinarian, yet was warm-hearted, with a sympathetic understanding of the men under her charge. Nothing was too good fbr "her boys," as she called us, and no sacrifice on her part too great to please us and restore us to health charge. The way the home was run was rather unique, as Matron Early refused to allow military guards on the gates. Every man who entered Aotea was placed on his honour to abide by the rules and regulations of the home, and as far as I am aware no man ever let the matron down. In her passing those men whom she cared for so well will feel they have lost a good friend and comrade, and will remember' with affection and gratitude all she did for them to make them happy at Aotea, and to restore them to health again.
