WOMEN'S INSTITUTES
AUCKLAND FEDERATION FIRST ANNUAL. MEETING The firsj annual meeting of the new Women's Institutes Federation of the South Auckland districts was held yesterday. The president, Mrs. N.R. McElwain welcomed the delegates and many visitors, and also outlined the work of the institute's, particularly referring to the help given in all districts by institute members with all classes of work for the soldiers. The Mayoress, Mrs. J. A. C. Allum, officially opened the meeting 4nd expressed her keen adrnirati6n of the work performed by Women Institutes. She felt that the, work in the rural communities was worthy of the' highest comifiendatiGn. Among the other speakers were Mrs. Kenneth Gordon, Mrs. J. G. Rjckerb'y and Mrs. C. W. Webster. Mrs. E. Boon, vice-presjdent of the Northern Federation, conveyed that district's good wishes. The guest speaker was Mrs. Price Jones. , The secretary,' Mrs. H. C. Baulf, called the roll and also announced the result of the ' Dorman Banner competition. This was won by the Henderson Women's Institute, with East Tamaki and Coatesyille tying for second. A feature of the meeting was the three-minute reports received from a number of institutes and these showed the extensive interests which the organisation sponsored. During the evening a musical programme was given, and Miss Joan Rattray spoke on emigration.
