OFFICER MISSING

MAJOR I. C. C. MACKENZIE Advice has been received that Major I. C. C. Mackenzie, R.E., son of Sir Clutha and Lady Mackenzie, of Manurewa, has been posted missing on operations. Sir Clutha is at present in India. Major Mackenzie, who is 24 years of age, is a former pupil of King's School and Wanganui Collegiate School, where he was a prominent footballer and athlete. In 1939 he went to Woolwich Military Academy and gained a commission in the Royal Engineers. For some time Major- Mackenzie was engaged in the anti-aircraft defence of London. After a year at Gibraltar he volunteered for combined operations work, and on D day he was with a command force in Normandy. He later went to Italy for the South of France landings. After a short period back in England he was transferred to the South-east Asia Command at Akyab, in Burma, early this year.
