NEW SCHOOL SITE
OTAHUHU INTERMEDIATE SOUTH ROAD AREA URGED Approval of a site on the Great South Road, about a mile and a quarter from the Otahuhu Technical High School, for the purpose of erecting a new intermediate school in the district, is to be sought by the Auckland Education Board. The decision was made following a conference between the board and representatives of the Otahuhu, Papatoetoe and Mangere East primary school committees, as well as other representatives of the district concerned, to discuss a suitable site. The board this morning decided to seek confirmation of the chosen site from the school committees concerned and then to apply to the Education Department for permission to secure the site. Mr. W. H. Fortune said he considered the intermediate and high schools should be combined. "We have a unique opportunity there to set an example for the future," said Mr. Fortune. The acting-chairman, Mr. A. Burns, said it was the Department's policy to keep intermediate and high schools separate, but Mr. Fortune said he did not see why the Department could not change its policy if it was decided there was a better one. . .
Mr. A. Bell expressed the opinion that no headmaster, no matter how efficient, could control 1500 pupils successfully. ■
