DAMAGE BY CYCLONE
NEW SOUTH. WALES STORM
CLOUDS BLOT OUT DAYLIGHT
(0.C.) SYDNEY, October 19. More than half an inch of rain fell in Sydney in 25 minutes on Monday afternoon when a cyclone hit the city about 3.30 p.m. Before the storm broke, the pall of dark-red cloud blotted out the daylight, and street and vehicle lamps had to be turned on. The clouds were laden with red dust from the "dust bowl" areas in the west and southwest of the State, and the streets were soon deep under a torrent of red water.
At Cobar, in the west, a cyclone Rendered 12 families homeless and caused damage estimated at £8000. The roofs were blown off hous'es, the theatre, and one hotel. Iron sheets were blown 50 yards.
On a station 35 miles from Broken Hill the body of Geoff. Wilson, aged 14, was found beside his horse. He had apparently lost his way in the storm. .. : ■ ~ . .
