"SOLD" A DIVORCE

£10,000 A YEAR PACT CHICAGO. Thorne Donnelly, heir to the late Reuben Donnelly, wealthy publisher, is asking the Courts to set aside his divorce pact on grounds of public policy. Donnelly alleges that in 1931 his wife sold him a divorce in return for an agreement to pay her £10,000 a year. The divorce was granted by a circuit Court, which approved the settlement terms. The former wife is suing for £50,000, allegedly owing under the terms of the settlement. At a preliminary hearing Donnelly claimed the agreement should be declared void because it was against public policy and "stimulated" divorce. He said the settlement was made because his former wife was unable to bear children, and he wished to marry another woman and become a father.
