EXCITING RACING

JOCKEYS' SCOOP POOL AVONDALE GUINEAS DAY Onlookers at the Avondale races at Ellerslie on Saturday had no cause for complaint about lack of excitement, as several of the events were won by very narrow margins, notably the Cup and Flying Handicap, the judge being the only person in a position to accurately tell these results. Mr. A. D. Hall's little Foxbridge mare Abbey Fox finished brilliantly to win the Cup by a neck from Sir Standfast, with Betterman a head further back, and Sir Dingle and Sir Dink almost in line with Betterman. In the Flying Handicap Tiger Tan, the favourite, fought out a great finish with Dinki Di, an outsider, and it was only in the last stride that he got his nose in front. Two lightweight jockeys. H. N. Wiggins and E, V. Dye, had a fiel-.i clay, winning six of the seven flat races; Wiggins won on My Bonnie, Royal Slipper and Corsac, while"Dye was seen to advantage on Abbey Fox, Tiger Tan and Autoscore. The Avondale Guineas was won somewhat easily by My Bonnie, which was handy to the pacemaker, Verdant, to the home turn, and then came away to score with something in reserve from Artificer, which ran on strongly over the final furlons to deprive Gay Chat of second place. Navroze impressed by the manner in which he finished into fourth place after losing ground at the three-furlong post. A large attendance was favoured by Eood weather, but the track was somewhat dead. The sum of £139,647 .10/ was nassod through the totalisator, this representing an Increase of na.-wn 10/ on the total handled on the corresponding day last year. Late results were:— Unusay? Avondale.
