BOER WAR VETERANS

A YEAR OF PROGRESS

The Auckland South African War Veterans' Association has reached a. Dominion record in membership, 252, and , the annual meeting in the R.S.A. building last week brought together many old comrades of Boer War days. The annual report showed a healthy financial position, and it was also stated that during the year the Benevolent Fund had aided many of the members in straitened circumstances. There were also reported record attendances at reunions and church parades, while a new activity was the competition for the Springbok , Trophy for outdoor bowls, which re- 1 suited in several challenge matches being played, with keen rivalry- St. Heuer s are the present holders, but Papatocoe veterans are "after their blood' for the first challenge. . Office-bearers for the ensuing year were elected as follow:—Patrons, Colonel T. H. Dawson, Colonel J. Hardie Neil, Captain J A. Algie, Colonel A. M. Samuels and Mr. C. G. Macindoe; president, Mr. T. A. Gwillim; vice-presidents, Colonel W. J. M. Bourchier and Mr. F. C. Murdock; executive. Messrs. A. Read, J. G. Ward, C. J. Duffy. C. N. Jones, C. Jonnson, H. Smith, H. Head, J. W. Stephens, C. J. Little and J. Hughes; honorary treasurer, Mr W. E. Linkhorn: honorary secretary, Mr. T. A. Gwillim, 8, Avon St., Parnell; assistant-secretary, Mr. F. C. Murdoch; representative on D.S.R.L., Mr. C. i*. Macindoe. .'■''.. Jl i -r,-. Mention was made of the annual Dominion conference which this year will be held at Palmerston North on August 24 and 25. No travel permits or concessions have been allowed and veterans must make their own arrangements. If accommodation is required the secretary, Mr. Gwillim, should be communicated with.
