EGG PRICES DROP
SEASONAL SCHEDULE AN OFFICIAL EXPLANATION (P.A.) OAMARU, this day. In connection with the reduction in-egg prices by 4d a dozen as from Monday next, due to the natural seasonal increase in production, Mr. T. Gill, chairman of the New Zealand Poultry Board, stated to-day that an egg schedule to cover rise and fall in prices in conformity with the Government's stabilisation policy had been agreed upon by the Stabilisation Commission, the Price Tribunal, the Internal Marketing Division and the New Zealand Poultry Board.
The first price fall on this schedule, said Mr. Gill, should have taken place on July 17, but through an oversight this" reduction had been delayed for a week and had not become effective until July 24. Therefore, in order to preserve the correct overall stabilised cycle-, of prices it had been necessary to increase the rate of the subsequent reduction.
This, he said, would account for the fall in prices being Id in excess of the reduction that took place at this time last year. The position, however,, would come into order by the time egg prices had reached their flush period level and producers would have received the full price return as agreed, upon under the schedule, while the consuming public would also have their eggs at overall stabilised price. In addition, said Mr. Gill, producers marketing through approved egg floors would [receive 3d per dozen extra by way of subsidy throughout the whole year.
