BRITAIN'S NATIONAL DEBT
LONDON, June 4. The latest debt return marks a new milestone in Britain's national finances. The national debt total has passed the £20,000 million mark, or 2 \' 2 times the pre-war figure. The post-war national debt in prospect is authoritatively estimated at £25,000 million. Short-term indebtedness already maturing within the next 10 yeoxe? totals £12,500 million, and financial commentators do not seem confident about the likelihood of agreement with Empire countries such aa will assist the solution of the debt problem represented by sterling balances In London. Latest published figures of oversea sterling holdings are £71 million for India, compared with £74 million for Australia, and £31 million for New Zealand.
