Britain Rushing Supplies For Red Army NEW PLASTIC LENSES MADE British Official Wireless Rec. 1.30 p.m. RUGBY, Mar. 17. Soldiers of the Red Army who need spectacles will soon be wearing British-made for the first time. This is the outcome of an S.O.S. from Russia to Britain, to meet which opthalmical manufacturers are rushing through big orders for the Ministry of Supply. They aim to have hundreds of thousands of spectacle lenses and frames ready by June as* the first instalment. Russia is getting the advantage of the industry's latest product—plastic lenses—in which Britain has taken the world lead and which have onlv recently been available to civilians in this country. A large proportion of the lenses will be plastic, and the remainder will be the usual type of optical glass.
