IN FARMING AREAS

MR. BANKES AMBRY'S TOIIB WHANGAREI, this day. The head of the United Kingdom food mission, Mr. W. Bankes Amery, said yesterday that he had gained information that would be most helpful to him in his discussions with the authorities in regard to increasing food production in New Zealand. Representatives of local bodies and primary industry organisations met him after he had been entertained at a civic luncheon by the Whangarei Borough Council and Whangarei County Council. He emphasised the need for increased production from the Dominions of at least 10,000 tons of butter, as well as other food products, so that Britain's meagre food rations could be maintained. He realised the difficulties that confronted the farming industry and it was with the view of gaining a firsthand knowledge that he was touring the country centres.
