MEAT DEMANDED
WATERSIDERS AT CHELSEA
A refusal to work overtime unless they were provided with a full meat meal in the evening without surrendering coupons was made by four gangs of waterside workers employed on a ship at the Chelsea sugar works yesterday. This was the second day in succession that waterside worker's had refused to work at Chelsea unless their request regarding a meat meal was acceeded to.
The Orcrer or the Waterfront Commission provides that anv individual man or men who desired to stop work may state their intention immediately they are informed that a ship will be working overtime. The order states that this is intended to cover special individual cases, and does not entitle workers to refuse overtime collectively. However, in this case, while the men have individually stated that they do not wish to work after 5 o'clock, the result has been that all have stopped.
