CITY WATER RESERVES
LARGE INCREASE THIS WEEK
Rain on the Waitakere Ranges in the present week has improved the Auckland water storage to the extent of 90,000.000 gallons, the reserve today being 1,065,000,000 gallons. The four dams, when full, hold 1,569,000,000 gallons.
To-day the three main streams on the ranges were running strongly, and last evening the auxiliary supply from the Lower Nihotupu Valley was shut down owing to the turgid state of the water.
At the present time, consumption of water, including the North Shore needs, is approximately 16,000,000 gallons daily.
The hosing ban is still in force, but it is expected that the Auckland City Council will make a decision when the full effect of the recent rain is known.
This year Auckland touched a new record 'in daily water consumption when on January 9, the day's total was 20,500,000 gallons.
