NORTHCOTE FINANCES

RECORD RATE COLLECTION In a report received at a meeting of the Northcote Borough Council last evening, it was stated that the rate collection was a record, 96.6 per cent of collectable rates being paid by the penalty day. Only £253 remained of arrears of previous years. The council had a credit balance of £809, compared with an overdraft of £1597 at the same time last year. With water accounts for the half-year still to come in, it appeared that there would be a good credit balance at March 31, the first for several years. The report pointed out that the financial position was partly due to the fact that shortage of labour and material had resulted in maintenance work being behind schedule.
