United States horse cavalry are carrying out vital reconnaissance missions over the Italian countryside, penetrating ravines and scaling mountain peaks inaccessible to mechanised troops, according to a report to the United States War Department.' . These mobile units move quietly across the country day and night, locating and reporting enemy positions In the knowledge of unmapped trails and roads gained by these horse troops lies the basis of successful infantry attacks. The horse troops are veterans of the Sicilian campaign. They were landed in Italy in September and since that time have done splendid work.
