REFUGEE STREAM
HUNDREDS A MONTH
BIG POST-WAR PROBLEM
LONDON. Since May, 1940, 60,000 nonBritish refugees have been admitted to the United Kingdom. Refugees are still being admitted at the rate of 800 a month.
This is disclosed in a statement on the recent Bermuda refugee conference issued by the Foreign Office. About 40,000 Polish refugees are being removed from Persia to East and South Africa, India, Palestine and Mexico.
A declaration by several nations which will reassure neutral States regarding the future of refugees and encourage them to give temporary asylum to refugees will be published shortly. The United States and British Governments have discussed with certain neutral States the question of affording them assistance towards the maintenance and other expenses incurred in the reception of refugees.
