ON THE FOOD FRONT

SUCCESSES IN BRITAIN In order to economise in the use of shipping space, everybody in Britain is encouraged to eat potatoes in place of- bread, states Mr. ■W. Bankes Amery, leader of the United Kingdom food mission to Australia and New Zealand. He says successful efforts have been made to increase the potato crop, which last summer amounted to 7,000,000 tons, or 50 per cent greater than normal.

Efforts have been made with regard to other crops also, and last summer's harvest amounted to 100,000,000 tons of produce of all varieties. Even the firemen of London have been called upon to play their part on the food front, and in their spare time are producing £- gs JV; -basements near Piccadilly Circus.
