INCREASED STAKE-MONEY

AVONDALE APRIL fixture Prize-money amounting to £4800 has been allocated by the Avondale Jockey Club for its autumn meeting, which is to 'be held at Ellerslie on April 15. this sum representing an increase of £900 on the total distribution twelve months ago. The chief event, the Foley Memorial, one mile and a half, is worth £1250. and the principal sprint, the Mount Eden Handicap, £650.

The club's policy of providing a distance race for hacks is to be commended, for there are far too Jew such events, which not only help to develop stamina, but also give young jockeys the opportunity to improve their horsemanship. The race in this instance is the Mount Roskill Handicap, one mile and three furlongs, and the stake £550.
