COATES MEMORIAL
MOVE IN KAIPARA
£2000 FUND AIMED AT (0.C.) DARGAVILLE, this day. At yesterday's meeting of the North Auckland Electric Power Board a letter received from Mr. W. Main, secretary of the Clifton Webb's electoral committee, stated that a fund was being established in recognotion of the services rendered the Dominion, and the Kaipara electorate in particular, by the late Mr. Gordon Coates. The communication further stated that in inviting the public and local bodies to donate amounts to the fund it proposed to realise a sum of at least £2000. The moneys collected would, after consideration with Mrs. Coates, be handed to her to be spent in such manner as would enable her future well being to be provided for.
The board dealt with the matter in a sympathetic manner, all members 'feelingly expressing their opinion that Mr. Coates had done yeoman service for the country and that his advice and assistance had been particularly valuable in matters connected with electrical power boards. Members also stated that Mr. Coates had given a life-time of service and received very little financially for it.
Ultimately the board resolved that a donation of £100 be made to the fund as a memorial and recognition of the great services rendered by Mr. Coates to the board and to the electrical industry throughout New Zealand.
