TAILORS' AWARD

AGREEMENT APPROVED A complete settlement in Conciliation Council of the northern district tailors' dispute was reported to the Arbitration Court yesterday, when Mr. W. E. Anderson, for the employers, and Mr. W. G. Moxsom, for the union, applied to have the agreement made into an award. It had been agreed to make the adult rate £5 10/ a week, plus bonuses, being the same as in Christchurch and Wellington, and to increase the piecework rate from l/8i to 1/10 an hour to bring it into line with the weekly rate. This represented an increase of 7/6 on the weekly rate and 8/4 to the pieceworker.

The Court agreed to make an award in terms of the Conciliation Council recommendations.
