COLLEGE HOSTEL
HISTORIC BLOCK ACQUIRED
The home for half a century of the Munro family, which provided the second Speaker of the New Zealand House of Representatives, Sir David Munro, has been acquired by the board of governors of the Massey Agricultural College as a hostel for women attending the college's horticultural and general farming courses. The purchase was made possible by the generosity of the late Mrs. M. Moginie, of Auckland, who left a sum of money to the board of governors of the college. Under the terms of her will the hostel will be known as Moginie House.
The house consists of 14 rooms, and is built on a terrace of about six acres, below which another six acres are occupied by native shrubbery and unspoiled native bush. It overlooks the Manawatu River, and from it, on a clear day, can be seen both Mt. Egmont and Mt. Ruapehu. The historic block is near the main college buildings.
