162,000 BRITISH IN EUROPE
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day. A further 60 former prisoners of war in Italy have been accounted for. Four are in Switzerland, four escaped to the Allied lines and the rest are in Germany.
British and Dominions prisoners of war in Europe number 162,000. Civil internees, including deported Channel Islanders, numbered 8000 up to the end of October. The British Red Cross and St. John war organisation had sent 19,500,000 food parcels to prisoners in camps in Europe. At the beginning of December there was at the International Red Cross depots a reserve of 2,000,000 food parcels.
