MANPOWER CHECK-UP

FURTHER ACTION IN CITY Five picture theatres, two in Newton and three in the city, were visited yesterday afternoon by officers of the National Service Department and interviewed patrons who were likely to. come within the manpower regulations. In one or two cases the men and women spoken to were absent from work on sick leave, but apparently were not so ill as to be tmable to go to the pictures. In a number of cases it was found that girls who had reached their 18th birthday had not registered. In other cases men and women had come to Auckland from other districts and had failed to notify their change of address. "Good results were achieved," commented a representative of the manpower division this morning.
