CADETS FOR TRAINING
AUCKLANDERS AMONG CHOSEN

WELLINGTON, this day After undergoing a course at the Army School of Instruction at Trent ham, ten young men have now been selected as 1944 entrants to theßova Military College, Duntroon, Aus tralia, said the Minister of Defence Mr. Jones, in a statement to-day. Applications were received from all parts of New Zealand and in the first instance they were subject of selection by district commandants of the three military districts. Those who came up to" the required high educational and medical standards were then subject to final review bv a special selection board. Following are the names of the successful candidates, together with the secondary schools thev attendedRaymond Wilkie Brougham (Palmerston North Boys' High School) Valentine Brinsley Brown (Marton District High School), lan Hall Finlay (Whangarei High School), Jack Harvey (Seddon Memorial Technical College, Auckland), John Vernon Head (Whakatane District High School), Richard Hamish Linton (Palmer ston North Boys' High School), John Hearsey McMillan Salmon (Wanganui Collegiate School), Desmond Stuart Smith (St Patrick's College, Silverstream), and William John Wrav > (Seddon Memorial Technical College, Auckland), Brian Matauru Poananga (Palmerston North Boys' High School). Bruce Poanganga, elder brother of Brian, was one of those chosen last year, being the first representative of the Maori race. The Feilding cadet is M. B. Seddon, son of Mr. T. L. Seddon, Mayor of Feilding.
