INCORRECT RETURNS
WINEMAKER FINED £150
"These offences are hard to detect and give a great deal of trouble," said Mr. Cleal, prosecuting yesterday before Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., when Mick Yelas, a Yugoslav, admitted four charges of supplying incorrect returns regarding the amount of wine he sold. Over a period of four months his returns showed the value of his wine sales as £20 15/ instead of £499 17/. Mr Henry, for defendant, said that all the wine had been sold to one hotel. At one time defendant had been exempt from payment of sales up to £500, but this was later reduced to £100. The wine had been made during the £500 exemption P6 Mr. Cleal said-the amount of tax evasion was £121 12/8. Defendant was fined £50 on each of two charges and £25 on each of the other two charges, a total of £150.
