BOXING TOURNEY

BROWN TO MEET GORDON Billy Brown, Wellington lightweight boxer who won the New Zealand Service title from Percy Kelly (Auckland) recently has been matched with Ciarrie Gordon, leading professional lightweight of the Dominion, in a 10-round contest to take place at the Town Hall next Monday. It will be the stid'est proposition that Brown has tackled. After a successful amateur career he turned professional in 1941 and twice beat Tod Hoggart and k.o.'ed Hughie Sheridan in the fifth round in Auckland. He lost a decision to Thomas. Next season he defeated E. Underwood 011 points over 10 rounds, and later conceded a stone to Jim Griffin (10,3) and was beaten. He was also defeated by Jack Colvin, but in September last won a decision over H. Foote. The supporting programme announced includes three Americans, H. Robinson, W. Ritson and C. Bowser. The bouts will be selected from the following:— J. Howe v. J. Donald; P. Gummer v. R. Robertson; E. Black v. H. Robinson-; D. Godward or A. Gordon v. W. Ritson; C. Bowser v. L. Kitchen or L. Guptill; D. NT. Taylor v. W. G. Breeze; R. King v. G. Broadhurst; A. Tayior v. R. Tatley; J. Boreham v. W. J. Wright; D. Rollinson v. F. Zimmerman.
