NEW HIGH SCHOOL

SCHEME FOR OKAIHAU (0.C.) WHANGAREI, this day. Okaihau is to have a district high school from February 1, 1944, the position to be reviewed when a combined post primary class at JCaikohe is established. The school committee and residents of the surrounding districts have been advocating this step since 1936. Several neighbouring schools have been consolidated already at Okaihau, where the buildings are among the most modern in Northland, situated over 900 feet above sea level. The school has commodious playgrounds, in one corner of which a swimming bath 50ft long and 15ft wide, built entirely by voluntary labour, will be in use before the end of the year.
