WARNINGS IGNORED
SENTENCE ON YOUNG WOMAN To a charge which deemed her to be a rogue and vagabond, having previously been convicted of being an idle and disorderly person, Jean Yates, 26, pleaded guilty when she appeared before Mr. J. Morling, S.M., in the Police Court this morning. Sub-Inspector Joyce said Yates was married about three years ago, but parted from her husband a week after their marriage. The husband was not maintaining her. Since her discharge from prison on March 15 she had ignored warnings given her by the police, and had been about the city leading a dissolute life. She asked the magistrate to give her another chance, and said she was prepared to leave the city and go to live in Hamilton. Remarking that it was quite clear, after examining her past life, that she required supervision, the magistrate sentenced her to undergo one year's reformative detention.
