FUEL SHORTAGE
RELIEF FOR NORTHLAND ADDITIONAL COAL SUPPLIES (0.C.) WHANGAREI, this day. To relieve the acute fuel shortage in Whangarei, arrangements have been completed for three additional truck loads of Waikato house coal fortnightly in addition to the present supplies, which are likely to increase with the introduction of Saturday working. The Minister of Marketing, Mr. Barclay, announced this yesterday when he was approached by the fuel committee appointed by the Whangarei Borough Council. If the committee met difficulty in the cartage of wood from outlying districts, military trucks would be requisitioned, the Minister said. . . For months past fuel has been strictly rationed in Northland, firewood, when available, selling at 45/ 3 ton. '
