LABOUR FOR FARMS

RELEASES FROM CAMP CLEAR POLICY WANTED Concern over the Government's policy in regard to the release of Grade 2 and 3 men for work on farms, v/as expressed at a meeting of the Auckland Council of Primary Production this morning by the chairman, Mr. R. C. Clarke. At its last meeting, he said, the council had gone away fully satisfied as to the treatment it was likely to receive. He moved that a clear policy in regard to farm labour should.be enunciated, and made public as the present vacillating policy was causing confusion and concern. Colonel N. P. Adams: The Government has given us a clear policy. The only thing is that it doesn't work. Mr. Best said the present state of affairs was brought about by changed conditions, for which the Government was not responsible. The council had to take into consideration the fact that the military authorities might not have sufficient Grade 1 men to fill the forces. The chairman: I think we have to be concerned with the War Cabinet and the Government of the country. We don't have to be concerned with the military authorities. All that we ask the Government is for a clear policy. Finally a motion was passed expressing concern at the delay in implementing the Government's policy as laid down by the (National Council concerning the -release of Grade 2 and 3 men.
