FREEDOM'S MARCH

ROTARY LUNCHEON ADDRESS "History—The Story of Freedom," a book in which Goce maintained that the only thing in history worth recording were the movements towards freedom, was referred to by Mr. J. W. Shaw, speaking at the Rotary Club luncheon in Milne and Choyce's reception hall to-day. Mr. Shaw said man was made for freedom, and was driven by an unconquerable impulse towards it. This war definitely indicated that the world was once more on the march for freedom. Mr. Shaw said Goce wrote that true freedom was the enlargement of the area in human life, where man was the master of his fate. This was civilisation. Countries where totalitarians and dictators reigned were suffering a throwback to barbarism, and did not possess true freedom.
