A WARNING
May 1 draw the attention of parents in the Epsom, and possibly other districts, to a disquieting experience involving my six-year-old daughter. Returning from school recently, in company with a companion of the same age, she was asked by a man on a vehicle for a direction to Market Road. This occurred in Gillies Avenue. His real object in asking such a question of children was revealed in his subsequent conduct. Careful questioning of both children leave no doubt that this unspeakable pervert exposed himself indecently while speaking to the children. On inquiry I learn that this type of offence, even with children of this age, is prevalent, and without wishing to raise undue alarm I would'suggest that parents and the public generally can assist by paying close attention to any instance within their notice of children being accosted by strangers. In the case quoted, the police acted promptly; but it will be obvious that, without adult witnesses, very little can be done. Given such witnesses, and among them parents who share my views of this vermin, the police need not be troubled. PARENT.
