CORRESPONDENTS' VIEWS

SOLDIERS AND STATE HOUSES

To The Editor

The Minister in Charge of State Houses has stated that 25 per cent of State houses will be reserved for men of the services. There are only 330 000 men in New Zealand between the' ages of 25 and' 55—say the average age of applicants. There will "be 200,000 of these men in the forces so that 60 per cent of the prospective applicants will divide 25 per cent of the houses, and the 40 per cent who did not serve in the armed forces will get 75 per cent of the houses. Where is the equality of sacrifice? Is this the best deal we give to the men whose victories in the air and in Libya, Tunisia, etc. our politicians delight in eulogising? HUGH G. KENDAL. President, New Zealand Fighting Forces League, Political.
